Trichocereus Cacti | Overview, Dosage, Effects and RecommendationsPopular

The San Pedro cactus has been used in shamanic rituals in the Andes for over 3,000 years. It often inspired the shamans to create melodies, artwork and chants based upon their experience with the Mexican spirit guide of the cactus, Mescalito. Traditionally, users would fast for one day before cutting upon a living cactus and eating it fresh. User had to swallow as much a pound and a half in order to achieve its full effects as the cactus is relatively weak (only 2% mescaline). Typically it was eaten as a right of passage ritual, where young men would venture into the forest to meet their spirit animal.
