Entheogens and psychedelics of those sorts are related to our minds, ways to think, how we consider the world beforehand and afterwards etcetera, with all of those possible chances, dangers -- or better involvements -- in them... with that deep relation to our minds which they bring.
And that which opens minds -- or doors of the mind -- doesn't do so in only one aspect in question. There are many such doors to be opened and they will be open or illuminated when they are once opened either with or without care. I mean, it doesn't much matter, does one want it or not: those doors are and will be then opened and could not be closed of our memeries and memory fully. Though, there is a possibly a way of changing some aspects and probably some way of annihilation of something of what one had seen... I mean, changing something from oneselves in oneself (in somewhat unconsciousnesly or some other way like that). But I believe those effects could not be taken away wholly, just because something in that very special sense of experience "etches" its trace on ones mind, and forever.
That is one significant reason to get oneself informed beforehand, if something is planned.
And, while in my opinion, psychedelics are entheogens (to use that word to describe them in a definitional manner), they need to be respected in that very special sense or manner. That is why they have been used ritually and in initiation rites, for example. To be something of worth, and and to be something that must be remembered afterwards.

Yes, once the conscious mind is expanded, it will never return to its original proportions. This is important for the neophyte to consider, that the 'innocence' can never be regained. Because they have a lasting impact on our psyche is all the more reason to approach these tools with great respect. You will show them respect, or else they will teach you respect.

I completely agree. They must be respected and their power is not completely in our hands. Entheogens have their own spirit which requires some previous studies beforehand. Amazonian Shamen, for example, are sure to be well prepared before stepping into the realm of spirits. They don't go crazy or the like because they already are aware about what would follow. And that is the manner whic is most preferable. So, get informed, in any case; I mean, the decision is yours. And, there is much to know in the Earth of us.
